Visited this place on our way to London. Looking at this place from the outside I was a little reluctant as to actually go in as it looked and in fact is a bowling green. However the car park was full and the overflow car park had a few cars in. When we got in we were greeted with the desert chiller with some beautiful looking deserts. The inside of this restaurant is covered with old film posters and being of that age to appreciate the carry on films & on the buses it was nice to see the posters. The service was good and pleasant, the staff were nice and friendly. The food was first class. Everything was of a very good quality cooked perfectly and the taste was great. A truly enjoyed meal and relaxed time here.

Excellent food, service a bit slow but it was very busy.

This was our first visit. From the outside it looks like a social club with the way it is built and the bowling green but once inside it was lovely. We were quickly escorted to a table which was spacious for the two of us. The staff are pleasant, helpful and want to make your visit pleasurable. Although it was lunchtime hubby decided to go for the mixed grill. He was regretting this when it arrived as it was magnificent. Steak, chicken, gammon, sausage, 2x eggs, gorgeous homemade onion rings, chips, salad, peas, large flat mushroom and tomato garnish. I had the lasagne which was also beautifully served with really fresh salad, chips and garlic bread. The bill came to around 40 which inc 2 x pints of Carling. Despite being busy the staff were always attentive. We will definately come here again, but we will make sure we are very hungry!

Went for Birthday meal food was amazing large portions cooked to perfection. Staff friendly and efficient. Nice relaxed atmosphere and thoroughly all round great value.

Myself, my wife Carol and her cousin Lorraine go out every Monday night, for the last 2 Mondays we have dined at the Shires and we will dine here again. The restaurant is clean and comfortable, the service is friendly and professional, the food is excellent. Carol had gammon which came with new potatoes,eggs,large onion rings and side salad, I had lasagna, fries garlic bread and side salad while Lorraine had steak with all the trimmings. They were all generous portions and definitely value for money so if you enjoy freshly cooked, top quality food this is the place to come. Great food and pleasant atmosphere. Staff are friendly and welcoming

We booked a table after a family member recommended. Staff were friendly and helpful, fab music playing in the background that most of the customers were singing along to proper old school classics. The food was amazing husband ordered the mixed grill and I ordered the surf and turf, the steak was cooked to perfection as was the rest of the food. Cannot recommend highly enough we absolutely loved it, food was obviously cooked to order so a little wait for the food but was worth it, would rather have a wait for freshly cooked food than quick service and reheated plastic. Will be going again

I usually get a tiny portion of average tasting food but this was massive and excellent. I couldn't finish it though i tried. Thank you and bravo
